Maextro's V800 launches on what Huawei calls a Level 3-native vehicle architecture

Chinese outlets reported that Huawei's HIMA alliance launched the Maextro V800 and V680 on August 5, with a fourfold-redundant driving computer on the larger car, a day after China's Level 3 safety standard was published.

Huawei’s HIMA alliance launched two Maextro flagship MPVs, the V800 and the V680, at an event on August 5. Chinese outlets reported that the V800 uses what the company described at the launch as a vehicle architecture built natively for Level 3 automated driving. Maextro is a brand Huawei runs with the carmaker JAC.

In ITHome’s account, the V800’s automated-driving computing carries a fourfold redundancy scheme — two sets of sensors, two connectors, two systems-on-chip and two power supplies — so that a redundant path takes over if a single one fails. Both vehicles run Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 stack on a six-lidar array that includes an 896-line dual-optical-path unit and four solid-state units.

Richard Yu, who leads Huawei’s consumer and automotive business, said at the launch that the system could be put into commercial use once national Level 3 rules took effect, according to a National Business Daily report carried by Sina.

The launch came a day after China published GB 44721—2026, which makes its Level 3 and Level 4 safety requirements mandatory from July 2027. The V800 was priced from 766,000 yuan and the V680 from 648,000 yuan, with deliveries from September.

Huawei’s own product page for the V800 confirms the ADS 5 stack, a six-lidar matrix among 40 sensors, and redundant steer-by-wire. It does not mention Level 3, and a footnote says ADS 5 is designed only for assisted driving and cannot replace the driver’s attention and judgment. There is no equivalent page for the V680.
