GAC Aion's Ray 7 was presented as the first car on Huawei's brake-by-wire system
Chinese outlets reported that GAC Aion showed a model built on what it calls a chip-level integrated drive-and-control architecture, with driving software it links to WeRide's automated driving stack.
GAC Aion presented the Ray 7 in China on August 19, according to reports by CnEVPost and CarNewsChina. Neither GAC nor Huawei published an account of the launch on their own newsrooms, and this report rests on those outlets rather than on a primary source.
As reported, the vehicle is the first model of a renewed Ray line and the first to feature what GAC Aion calls a chip-level integrated drive-and-control architecture, alongside Huawei’s electro-mechanical braking system, a brake-by-wire design without a hydraulic circuit. CnEVPost reported a Huawei-supplied motor with a peak output of 180 kilowatts, and quoted GAC Aion as saying the car stops in 33 meters from 100 kilometers per hour and can brake safely even if all four wheels fail. CarNewsChina additionally named Huawei’s iTRACK torque control.
The driver-assistance system was described as running 27 automotive-grade sensors, including a Huawei 192-channel lidar unit and three 4D millimeter-wave radars, with driving algorithms CnEVPost reported as sharing a technological foundation with WeRide’s Level 4 robotaxis. GAC Aion and Huawei were reported to have held a signing ceremony at the launch, saying they would further deepen their technology collaboration.
The architecture claim and the braking figure originate with the manufacturer and were not verified against any document issued by GAC, Huawei or WeRide. WeRide’s own newsroom carried nothing on the program, and GAC Aion had not announced pricing or a launch date.
