Nexteer said its steer-by-wire system was the first certified to ASIL D in production

Nexteer Automotive began series production of steer-by-wire steering in the first half, with two program launches, according to the interim report the company filed to the Hong Kong exchange on August 31. The report described the Chinese launch as the world’s first ASIL D-certified full steer-by-wire system launch, including both the handwheel actuator and the road wheel actuator. The second launch, in North America, uses what the company called its first dual actuator gear designed for robotaxi use.

The highlights assert the certification without naming who granted it. Further into the report, in its business-overview narrative, Nexteer said the product received ASIL D functional safety approval from DAkkS, Germany’s national accreditation body, in late 2025, and called it the world’s first steer-by-wire certification at that level. ASIL D is the most stringent classification in the ISO 26262 functional safety standard.

The software claim sits alongside it. Nexteer described a full-stack chassis control software layer with open interfaces, which it said enables cross-domain functional-safety redundancy and provides an actuation layer for Level 3 and higher automated driving, and which is designed for carmakers to integrate into their own software-defined vehicle architectures.

The interim results announcement Nexteer filed on August 12 did not mention the steer-by-wire launch or the certification; both appear for the first time in the company’s exchange filings here. Chinese carmakers accounted for 30 percent of first-half program bookings, about one billion dollars of the 3.3 billion booked. The report defines bookings as the lifetime revenue of programs newly awarded in the period and cautions that they are not a forecast of revenue or profit. No customer is named for either launch.
