AUMOVIO showed a distributed brake-by-wire system and named a first Chinese order
The supplier said a major Chinese carmaker had placed a series order for a brake system that runs electronically from the pedal through to its fallback level.
AUMOVIO presented a distributed brake system on September 10 and said a major Chinese vehicle manufacturer had placed the first series order for it, with production due to start at the end of 2027. The company did not name the customer.
The system operates electronically from the brake pedal through to the fallback level, with no hydraulic fallback. AUMOVIO said both actuators run continuously and generate braking force together, where current one-box systems for highly automated driving keep the second actuator in reserve. In the fallback case, the company said, the system continues to act on all four wheels, against two or three for most systems.
Because braking commands travel electrically and no hydraulic fallback with a mechanical connection to the driver is needed, AUMOVIO said almost all braking components apart from the electronic brake pedal can be positioned freely in the front section of the vehicle. It said the system suits automated driving up to SAE Level 5, and requires an E/E architecture with multiple power supply points and redundant electrical networks.
Boris Mergell, who heads the company’s Safety and Motion business area, was quoted in the release.
AUMOVIO gave no value for the order and did not say how many vehicles it covers. The company listed in Frankfurt after being spun out of Continental, and its investor-relations disclosures carried nothing on the order; the most recent item there is dated August 6, so no compelled disclosure of the terms exists in a register we can reach.
