GM put fleet vehicle data and an AI assistant into a single OnStar account
General Motors said it had recently launched OnStar Fleet Intelligence, a platform combining diagnostics, geofencing and connected-service renewals with a natural-language assistant over fleet reporting.
General Motors said on September 30 that it had recently launched OnStar Fleet Intelligence, a platform that brings its fleet customers’ vehicle data and connected services into a single account. The release gave no launch date beyond that wording.
GM said the platform lets fleet operators renew OnStar software and services, connect vehicles, track orders and reach diagnostic data including fuel efficiency and range, along with geofencing and vehicle protection. Customers large enough to hold a Fleet Account Number can link it to the account and manage every vehicle listed under that number with one login, GM said, regardless of make, equipment or OnStar plan.
A module called Fleet Insights looks for patterns across vehicles, routes and drivers that a single vehicle report would not show. An OnStar Fleet AI Assistant answers natural-language queries; the examples GM gave were total idling time for each vehicle this month, and which vehicles are the most and least utilized.
Ian Hucker, global vice president of GM Fleet, was quoted on the platform, as was Arnie Magnotta, vice president of OnStar Services and Digital Commerce. GM said select fleet customers could access it now, with others joining through a phased rollout.
A footnote to the release said the platform requires a connected services plan, that diagnostics capabilities vary by vehicle model, that not all issues deliver alerts, and that emergency and security services are not included. GM filed nothing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on the launch, and no pricing or customer numbers were disclosed.
