NHTSA will set out its ADS guidance status at a workshop it will not record
The agency filed notice of a December automated-driving workshop covering the status of its guidance documents and its FMVSS modernization work, and said that session alone will go unrecorded.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration filed notice on October 6 of a public meeting on its safety research portfolio on December 1 and 2, and of an Automated Driving Systems workshop on the afternoon of December 1. The notice appeared in the Federal Register of October 7 under docket number NHTSA-2026-1618.
The workshop is convened by the agency’s Office of Automation Safety. The notice says it will include presentations and an update covering that office’s activities, among them the status of guidance documents and FMVSS modernization efforts, and that stakeholders will be able to give technical input and feedback through an interactive, round-robin format.
The two sessions are treated differently on the record. The notice says the research portfolio meeting will not be live streamed but will be recorded, with panel presentations made available on the agency’s website afterward and presentation slides placed in the public docket. Of the workshop it says, in both the summary and the supplementary information, that it will not be recorded.
Both sessions are in person in the West Atrium of the Department of Transportation headquarters in Washington. Registration closes on November 24, and the docket stays open for comments for 90 days after the meeting, until March 2, 2027. The notice was signed by Cem Hatipoglu, Associate Administrator for Vehicle Safety Research. As of the morning of October 7 the docket itself was not yet live on regulations.gov.
