Volvo rolls out Apple Music to more than two million cars over the air

A global OTA update adds native Apple Music integration to Volvo models back to model year 2020, with Spatial Audio on the newest cars.

Volvo Cars began pushing a global over-the-air update that adds native Apple Music integration to more than two million vehicles, reaching models as far back as model year 2020 without a dealer visit. Volvo said timing varies by model.

Eligible models span the lineup — EX90, ES90, XC90, S90, V90, XC60, S60, V60, XC40, EX40 and EC40 — with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos supported on the EX90 and upcoming EX60 through the optional Bowers & Wilkins sound system. New subscribers get up to three months of Apple Music at no charge, an offer valid until July 6, 2027.

The feature itself is consumer convenience; the delivery is the story. A six-year-deep fleet receiving a new native application through a single global update program is a working demonstration of the update infrastructure most OEMs are still building.

Why it mattersShipping a feature to two million cars back to model year 2020 without a dealer visit is the operational benchmark OTA programs get measured against.
