Toyota and NVIDIA extend partnership to AI-assisted safety-critical vehicle code

The expanded alliance adds a MISRA-compliant AI coding assistant for vehicle software alongside Toyota's continued use of DriveOS and DRIVE AGX.

Toyota and NVIDIA broadened their partnership beyond driver-assistance silicon into the software toolchain: Toyota has developed a MISRA-compliant “Code Assistant” AI model, trained with NVIDIA’s Megatron-LM framework, to help engineers generate, review and validate safety-critical vehicle code.

On the vehicle side, the commitment is unchanged — Toyota is building next-generation models on NVIDIA DRIVE AGX hardware running the safety-certified DriveOS operating system for Level 2++ driver assistance. The expansion reaches into development and manufacturing instead: Omniverse-based digital twins and Isaac Sim simulate factory robotics and workflows, and Woven by Toyota trained a multimodal vision-language model for urban traffic interpretation on H100 GPUs, aimed at the Woven City test bed.

The notable element is the code assistant’s compliance framing. MISRA conformance is the entry requirement for automotive C/C++ development, and building a generative model explicitly around it signals that AI-assisted coding is being engineered into regulated automotive workflows rather than bolted on beside them. Whether it measurably shortens Toyota’s software cycle is the question its competitors will be watching.
