China's first national standard for EV service safety takes effect
GB/T 47439-2026 sets out how workshops should handle high-voltage and hydrogen systems on new-energy vehicles, from risk identification to tool checks.
China’s national standard for safety in new-energy vehicle maintenance work, GB/T 47439-2026, took effect on August 1. The standard was issued on April 30 and is registered as a recommended national standard, which makes it a reference rather than a mandatory requirement, though recommended standards are routinely written into contracts, tenders and enforcement practice.
The standard is administered by the Ministry of Transport, with technical oversight from the national technical committee for automobile maintenance standardization. It applies to work on the specialized systems of battery-electric, plug-in hybrid and gaseous-hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles.
It specifies requirements for personnel and premises, work preparation, risk identification and disposal, work procedures and operational safety. The emphasis falls on high-voltage systems and on hydrogen supply systems, with named requirements for protective equipment and tool inspection, confirmation of the site environment, identification of risks before work begins, and servicing of Class B voltage circuits. Drafting units included the Ministry of Transport’s highway research institute and the battery manufacturer CATL.
The standard governs the physical work rather than the software, but the two are not separable in practice. Isolating a high-voltage system, confirming its state and returning the vehicle to service are procedures a technician executes through diagnostic software, and a documented national procedure is what that software is expected to enforce.
