Lucid moves its robotaxi program into a dedicated AI, driver-assistance and digital unit

Lucid Group said on August 4 that its robotaxi program with Uber and Nuro would become part of Lucid Technologies, which it described as “a dedicated business unit bringing together AI, advanced driver-assistance, and digital capabilities.” The program was named one of four projects the company had marked as priorities for resources and capital.

The announcement came with an operational reset set out by Silvio Napoli, who took over as chief executive, and organized around what the company called cash and cost, customer and quality, and culture and team. Lucid said it had identified $1.4 billion in cash reductions during 2026: roughly $600 million to $800 million in inventory, about $500 million in capital expenditure and about $200 million in operating expenses, the last including some $158 million in annualized savings from a United States workforce reduction announced in June. It also said it had halved the number of direct reports to the chief executive and placed leaders in roles covering finance, technology, customer experience, transformation, digital and program execution.

On the robotaxi work itself, Lucid said the program was in active testing and validation with a fleet of nearly 100 vehicles across the San Francisco Bay Area and Houston, and that it had begun delivering production-validation Lucid Gravity vehicles to Nuro.

Revenue for the quarter was $405 million and the company reported $3.0 billion in total liquidity, which it said gave a runway well into 2027. It disclosed no revenue or headcount figures for the new unit.
