Smart Eye won a second mirror-integrated driver and occupant monitoring program
The Gothenburg company said a major European automaker had selected its combined driver and occupant monitoring software for three models, moving the camera into the rear-view mirror.
Smart Eye said on August 13 that it had been selected to supply driver and occupant monitoring software for three new models from a major European automaker with a global footprint.
The company said the customer had previously sourced its occupant monitoring software using a different camera position. In the new program the driver monitoring and occupant monitoring software is integrated into the rear-view mirror, with a camera that provides both infrared and color images. Smart Eye said that combination let the software track driver attention while also detecting the presence, position and activity of occupants across the cabin, supporting features such as child seat detection and feet-on-dashboard detection.
The order was secured together with a global tier one supplier, which Smart Eye did not name, and neither did it name the automaker. Production of the models is scheduled to begin in 2029. Based on projected product life cycle volumes, the company estimated the order would generate 100 million Swedish kronor in revenue.
Smart Eye said the award took its running total to 379 design wins from 24 automakers, with its Interior Sensing technology now selected for 18 car models across four automakers. It put the combined estimated order value of future deliveries from current design wins at more than 7.665 billion kronor.
Martin Krantz, chief executive and founder, described it as the company’s second rear-view mirror program and said the combination was a cost-effective solution that would score well on Euro NCAP for years.
