Ambarella posted a record edge-AI quarter on its 5nm CV75 and CV72 vision chips
The vision-chip supplier reported quarterly revenue of $108.1 million, up 13.2 percent from a year earlier, and named its 5nm AI chips as the source of the growth without publishing an automotive split.
Ambarella filed its second-quarter results for fiscal 2027 with the Securities and Exchange Commission on September 3. Revenue was $108.1 million, up 13.2 percent from $95.5 million a year earlier, and revenue for the six months to July 31 was $208.5 million, up 14.9 percent.
Chief executive Fermi Wang said edge AI revenue reached record levels in the quarter, “with balanced sequential growth in Auto and IoT markets with very strong growth from our 5nm CV75 and CV72 AI SoCs.” He also pointed to a first stand-alone AI accelerator, the X7, and seven-year agreements to develop indirect sales channels with the distributor Macnica and with Capgemini.
GAAP gross margin was 57.7 percent, down from 58.9 percent. The GAAP net loss narrowed to $6.7 million from $20.0 million, helped by a one-time $9.0 million reduction in research and development expense on the release of a deposit liability after a development project was terminated. Non-GAAP net income was $8.2 million.
The company guided to revenue of between $115.0 million and $124.0 million for the third quarter.
The release gave no breakdown of automotive revenue and named no automotive design wins.
