Knorr-Bremse put an ISO 24089-certified software update system into series production
The brake supplier said its update-management system is certified to ISO 24089 and already in series production, and that it is adding an open, manufacturer-independent update hub built with Cojali.
Knorr-Bremse said on September 3 that it supports vehicle manufacturers with “an ISO 24089-certified Software Update Management System (SUMS), which is integrated into the cloud-based Online Configuration Tool (OCT) and is already in series production.” The company set the system against UN R155 on cybersecurity and UN R156 on software updates, which it said require end-to-end digital processes to manage software versions securely and transparently.
The supplier described the system as established first in the trailer sector. Its iTEBS X electronic trailer braking system combines braking functions, sensors and control, and Knorr-Bremse said other trailer systems were fully integrated into SUMS, including its electro-pneumatic and roadtrain modules, a port expander, tire pressure monitoring and third-party systems. The company said this laid the groundwork for future E/E architectures, over-the-air updates and automated functions within vehicle networks.
Knorr-Bremse also said it was working with partners on open platforms including the Cojali Digital Hub, which it described as manufacturer-independent and able to consolidate software applications into one centralized, cyber-secure environment while leaving manufacturers in control of their data and systems.
The announcement came ahead of IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, which runs September 15 to 20. Knorr-Bremse gave no manufacturer names, no volumes and no certification date for the update system.
