Daimler Buses put a new electronic architecture and over-the-air updates into its coaches
Daimler Buses said a new electronic architecture reaching Mercedes-Benz and Setra coaches from 2027 will carry remote software updates on selected control units, with the fleet operator deciding when and on which vehicles each update installs.
Daimler Buses said on October 19 that its Mercedes-Benz and Setra coach ranges will successively take a new electronic architecture from 2027, carrying remote software updates and an expanded set of assistance systems. The company presented the material as technical detail behind the product update it communicated at IAA Transportation 2026.
Software updates can be installed remotely on selected control units over the air, the company said, which it expects to cut workshop visits made only for software. It drew a line around the control: the process is remote but not uncontrolled, and the fleet operator decides when an update is installed and on which vehicles. Daimler Buses described the architecture as the basis for a vehicle that can keep developing through software across its service life.
The architecture also carries new assistance functions. Active Sideguard Assist 3 supports drivers in critical turning and lane-change situations and, combined with comfort steering, can initiate a supportive steering movement during a critical lane change. Active Cross Traffic Assist addresses situations involving crossing traffic. Availability depends on model series and equipment specification.
A new generation of the 360-degree camera system moves the camera display into the touch display of the Multimedia Cockpit Interactive, with a wider viewing angle and, depending on specification, a park pilot and a transparent-chassis view. A navigation services package activated through the OMNIplus ON portal after delivery gives three years of continuous over-the-air map updates and live traffic information.
The update reaches the Mercedes-Benz Tourismo and Travego, the latter for the Turkish market only, and the Setra ComfortClass, TopClass HDH and S 531 DT.
