UD Trucks will rewrite a cab module's software on 9,933 trucks in Japan
UD Trucks told Japan's transport ministry that compatibility between a driver's-seat switch panel and the cab input/output module had not been verified sufficiently, and that it would reflash the module on every affected vehicle.
UD Trucks filed recall number 5877 with Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism on October 22, covering 9,933 vehicles, with repair work starting the following day.
The filing named the defective part as electrical equipment, specifically the cab input/output module. As filed, verification of compatibility between the driver’s-seat flexible switch panel and that module was insufficient, so on key-on a switch may fail to act when pressed, or may register as pressed when it has not been. The filing said devices such as the fog lamps might then fall short of requirements set in Japan’s safety standards.
The remedy is to rewrite the cab input/output module’s software with a countermeasure program on all vehicles. UD Trucks reported 68 occurrences and no accidents, and said the matter was found from market information.
The scope crosses three truck brands, because the component is shared across them. The filing covers 123 type designations in four model names, built between July 21, 2025 and June 3, 2026, sold as the UD Trucks Quon, the Isuzu Giga and under the Hino name with no model name recorded. A further 11 type designations and 12 vehicles received the part as a service replacement, and 358 flexible switch panels were shipped as spare parts between June 26, 2025 and May 25, 2026 and fitted to vehicles the filing said cannot be identified.
