Volvo's third new North American truck ships with over-the-air updating as standard
Volvo Trucks launched the VNX, completing a three-truck North American lineup on one platform, with a factory-fitted telematics gateway and remote software and parameter updating on every unit.
Volvo Trucks said on October 14 that it had launched the Volvo VNX in North America, the third and last of the renewals that began with the VNL in 2024 and continued with the VNR in 2025. The company said the three trucks share a common platform, the result of a 30 billion Swedish krona investment in product development and manufacturing that the release put at about 3 billion dollars.
Every VNX leaves the factory with a 4G telematics gateway, the company said. It described the gateway as powering remote diagnostics that monitor the truck around the clock and flag potential faults before they take it out of service, and remote programming that delivers software and parameter updates over the air so trucks stay in work rather than in the workshop. Volvo called the VNX its most connected vocational truck.
The truck carries the same safety platform introduced on the VNL and VNR, with forward pedestrian detection standard and blind spot detection now optional on both sides, alongside a 360-degree camera system. The D13 engine is rated up to 540 horsepower and 2,600 Nm, with an engine brake delivering up to 630 braking horsepower, and the engine is certified to EPA 2027 emissions standards. Volvo said the cab carries a third more ultra-high-strength steel than its legacy vocational products.
Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America, was quoted in the release. The two Volvo releases issued the same minute disagree about when the truck goes on sale: the global release said the start of sales would be announced later this year, while Volvo Trucks North America said sales would begin on October 26. Both went out at 17:30 UTC, the global one on the Nordic wire, and neither appeared on the Volvo Group press listing.
