Tesla's active FSD subscriptions rose to 1.74 million as deliveries fell 2 percent

Tesla's third-quarter update, filed with the SEC as an exhibit to a current report, put active Full Self-Driving subscriptions at 1.74 million against 1.04 million a year earlier, in the same table that recorded a 2 percent year-on-year fall in deliveries.

Tesla filed a current report on October 21 carrying its Third Quarter 2026 Update as an exhibit, and the operational summary in that update tracked a software subscription count alongside vehicle volume.

Active FSD subscriptions were given as 1.74 million at the end of the third quarter, against 1.04 million in the same quarter of 2025 and 1.48 million a quarter earlier — a rise of about two-thirds over the year and roughly 18 percent over the quarter. Total deliveries in the quarter were 486,532, which the same table marked as down 2 percent year on year.

A footnote defines the metric: in accordance with the company’s 2025 CEO Performance Award, it includes both upfront payment and monthly subscriptions and excludes free trials. It is a board-award measure rather than an accounting line, and the update does not reconcile it to revenue. Tesla’s own standing caveat on the system is that active driver supervision is required and that it does not make the vehicle autonomous.

Services and other revenue was $4,605 million for the quarter, and the company said Services and Other gross profit grew $86 million sequentially to a record $734 million. In its outlook it said that over time it expects hardware-related profits to be accompanied by an acceleration of software and fleet-based profits.

On regulatory reach, the update said four further approvals had been received since the end of the second quarter — Croatia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia — bringing availability to nine EU countries.

Why it mattersA software subscription count that climbs while vehicle deliveries fall is the clearest disclosed evidence yet that automotive software revenue can grow without the hardware volume underneath it.
