Hella Gutmann built a workshop diagnostics AI on its own repair records only
The diagnostics arm of FORVIA HELLA launched macsNova, an assistant it said draws on the company's own repair history and no external data, as the intelligence layer of a new tester.
Hella Gutmann Solutions presented macsNova at Automechanika in Frankfurt on September 8, describing it as the intelligence layer of its new mega macs PRO tester and of the existing mega macs S20 and PLUS.
The company said the knowledge base behind it is closed and built only from its own records: more than 100 million vehicle histories, more than 100 billion parameter measurement points taken from real repair cases, and around 2 billion evaluations of error codes. It stated that no external data sources are used, and drew a contrast with what it called generic AI solutions.
Two functions were described. In automatic diagnostics, the tool identifies the vehicle, reads fault codes, evaluates measured parameters against the knowledge base and returns a ranked list of probable causes with the components to check first. In what the company calls an AI Smart Help Call, diagnostic data is sent from the tester to the Hella Gutmann hotline, where a proposed solution is prepared with machine assistance. The company said responsibility for the decision remains with the technician.
Hella Gutmann introduced macsData PRO for repair information, labor values and circuit diagrams alongside it, and set out an ecosystem around the tester that includes CSC-Tool PRO for guided calibration of front cameras, radar sensors and surround-view systems, which it market-launched in February. In a companion release, Marcel Wiedmann of FORVIA HELLA’s global aftermarket organization named software-defined electronic architectures as the reason workshops need the tooling.
