Toyota will fold its Frontier Research Center into its software and advanced R&D units
From January 1, 2027, the center's functions move into the Advanced R&D and Engineering Company and the Software Development Center, part of an organizational change that also creates a company-wide robotics organization.
Toyota Motor Corporation announced on November 5 that it will abolish its Frontier Research Center and integrate its functions into the Advanced R&D and Engineering Company and the Software Development Center, effective January 1, 2027. According to the announcement, the change is intended to connect the center’s research and exploration of future technologies more closely with the organizations responsible for technology development and implementation in society. Toyota said it will pursue that research together with related technologies and businesses rather than within a separate organization.
The same announcement abolishes the Carbon Neutral Engineering Development Center, whose functions move into the Powertrain Company with a focus on hybrid systems, and establishes Toyota Robotics as a company-wide organization under direct corporate oversight, headed by chief production officer Takefumi Shiga. Toyota also said it will split its India, Middle East, East Asia and Oceania region into two and appoint new chief executives for the North America, China and Asia regions. Toyota published the changes the same day in a Japanese-language disclosure on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s TDnet service.
